To ensure transparency and compliance with AB2761, information has been released regarding an in-custody death at the San Joaquin County Jail.

On January 6, 2025, Manuel Williams, a 41-year-old male adult, was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 3:52 PM. Fire and medical personnel arrived quickly and performed CPR before transporting him to a local hospital by ambulance at 4:21 PM. He was pronounced dead at 4:41 PM.

An investigation into the circumstances of this in-custody death has been initiated. Detectives and officials from the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office are actively involved in the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the cause of death was suicide by hanging. The next of kin has been notified.
