Rep. Josh Harder, who represents California’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of comments on social media addressing issues related to state permitting processes and housing policy.
On May 4, 2026, Harder referenced California’s regulatory environment with a pop culture nod: “If the Millennium Falcon had to go through California permitting, Han would STILL be waiting on his light-speed-impact study. Happy May the 4th!”
The following day, May 5, he commented on ongoing legislative debates concerning housing policy: “Exciting movement here. The two worst outcomes in the housing fight are passing a bill that effectively bans build-to-rent housing, or passing nothing at all. Let’s find a better option! https://t.co/wo1Mp7KeU1”
Later that same day, Harder expressed criticism of proposed legislation: “Section 901 is the wrong answer to the right question. Here’s the right answer: https://t.co/Mf5X1LLQ7e”
Josh Harder has represented California’s 9th District since 2019 after replacing Jeff Denham in Congress. Born in Turlock, California in 1986 and currently residing in Tracy, Harder is an alumnus of Stanford University (BA, 2008) and Harvard University (2014).
