Rep. Josh Harder, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 9th district since 2019, recently addressed issues central to his district in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter). Harder, who was born in Turlock, California in 1986 and currently resides in Tracy, highlighted agriculture, air quality, and food security as key concerns.
On September 8, 2025, Harder referenced his family’s long history in the region: “5 generations ago my family came to the Valley to farm peaches. Ag has to remain the backbone of our economy.”
The following day, he drew attention to local environmental health challenges. On September 9, 2025, he wrote: “My brother and I grew up with asthma. Struggling to breathe is a truly terrible feeling. Today a new report came out saying Stockton has one of the worst air quality grades in the entire country. We don’t have to accept this! I don’t care what your politics are. Fixing our”
Later that same day, Harder criticized recent federal decisions affecting nutrition assistance programs and announced legislative action: “No kid should have to worry about going hungry. Washington’s cuts to SNAP are shameful. I’m fighting back with a new bill to make sure our kids have the food they need to grow and learn.”
California’s Central Valley is known for its agricultural output but also faces persistent air quality problems due in part to industrial activity and geographic factors. Stockton’s poor air quality rankings have been documented by multiple public health reports over recent years.
Harder’s educational background includes degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University.
