Rep. Josh Harder, who represents California’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on March 13, 2026 regarding imminent federal housing reform legislation.

In his first post, Harder wrote: “We’re incredibly close to passing the biggest housing reform bill in half a century and delivering long-lasting solutions to one of the biggest pocketbook issues facing our families. Let’s not fumble on the five yard line.” (March 13, 2026).

He continued by highlighting the consequences of legislative inaction: “Our families have been paying a steep price for this inaction – higher costs, more debt, a nationwide housing shortage, & a dwindling American dream of actually owning a home. When the median homebuying age is 59, that future is out of reach for millions, & that’s a tragedy.” (March 13, 2026).

Harder also noted the historical context behind current efforts: “America has a housing problem. It’s been more than 50 years since Congress passed a meaningful bill on housing supply, and no serious federal reforms have survived the congressional gauntlet since then.” (March 13, 2026).

Josh Harder has served as representative for California’s 9th District since replacing Jeff Denham in 2019. He was born in Turlock, California in 1986 and currently resides in Tracy. Harder’s academic background includes degrees from Stanford University and Harvard University.
